Don't Just Pray in the Storm

God is not a first responder we only dial in times of disaster. He is our Father, our Friend, our Sustainer. The One who wants to walk with us through all things—not just when we’re drowning, but when we’re dancing. Not just in tears, but in triumph.

It has been a season of quiet trials and personal reflection since my last message. A few months ago, I spoke about trusting God to help us weather life’s storms. And since then, I've been in the thick of one. The kind of storm that doesn’t announce itself with thunder or lightning, but creeps in slowly—through exhaustion, uncertainty, and spiritual weariness.

During that time, I found myself leaning heavily on prayer, crying out to God in moments of weakness, fear, and fatigue. And then I had to ask myself something—why did it take a storm for me to cry out? Why was I clinging to prayer like a life raft only when the waters rose?

God is not a first responder we only dial in times of disaster. He is our Father, our Friend, our Sustainer. The One who wants to walk with us through all things—not just when we’re drowning, but when we’re dancing. Not just in tears, but in triumph.

Too often, we treat prayer like an emergency exit rather than the front door. But God doesn't want to hear from us only when we’re at rock bottom. He invites us to speak with Him at all times—when the sun is shining, when we get the job, when we laugh with our children, when we find a quiet moment of joy. He delights in our every moment.

Prayer isn't a tool for survival; it's the language of relationship. The more we talk to Him, the more we recognize His voice in our lives. The more we share—our worries, our wins, our wonder—the freer our spirits become. Because prayer isn't just about asking. It's about aligning. It's about living life in rhythm with the One who created us.

When we limit our prayers to moments of crisis, we rob ourselves of the daily intimacy God longs to have with us. And we miss out on the peace, clarity, and power that comes from walking in constant communion with Him.

Friend, don't wait for the next storm to pray. Talk to Him now. Invite Him into the everyday—into your coffee breaks, your car rides, your joys and your sorrows. He’s listening. Not just because you’re broken, but because you belong to Him.

And in that truth, we find the freedom our hearts have been longing for.

Stay blessed,
Brother J
