The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." Sin brings death, a consequence we cannot escape. Yet, while death is inevitable, it is not the end. The good news is that everyone dies, but through Christ, we have the promise of life beyond the grave.

Christ’s sacrifice on the cross covered our sins. His blood, shed for us, atoned for every failure, every misstep, and every transgression. We could never earn or deserve this forgiveness—it was given freely through God's grace. Our salvation is not the result of our own efforts, but a gift that comes only through the grace of God. Despite the eternal life promised through this grace, everyone must still die at least once. Death is the natural consequence of our earthly existence, but it is not something we need to fear.

The dead, as scripture tells us, are merely asleep, lying in wait for the day they will be raised up. Jesus said in John 11:11, speaking of Lazarus, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going to wake him up.” Just as Lazarus was temporarily dead before Christ raised him, so too are those who have passed on. They are resting, awaiting the return of the Savior, when all will be called from their graves to new life.

When Christ returns, the world will endure tribulation, and many will pass away during that time. Yet, even in the face of this future turmoil, we are called not to fear. We must not fear the dead, nor should we fear death itself. Instead, we should understand death as part of the natural order in God’s plan—a doorway, not a final destination.

Imagine a doorway. You walk up to it, knowing that there’s something beyond it, something unseen. Do you fear the doorway itself? Of course not. You simply walk through, trusting that you will arrive on the other side. Death is like this. It is not an end, but a passage through which we must all go. In Christ, the doorway of death leads to life eternal. We should not be consumed with fear about what awaits on the other side, but rather, trust in the Lord’s promises.

Fear of death comes from uncertainty, but as believers, we don’t live in uncertainty. We have the assurance of God’s Word, the strength of His promise, and the gift of His grace. Jesus’ victory over death ensures that it no longer holds power over us. Instead of fearing death, we should place our faith in the One who conquered it.

As we live our lives, let us remember that death is only temporary, and life eternal awaits those who have accepted the grace of God. When we put our trust in God and rely on His promises, the fear of death melts away. Rest assured that when we pass through the doorway of death, Christ Himself is waiting to welcome us into His eternal Kingdom.

So, fear not. Death is not the end. It is simply the next step in our journey, leading us to a glorious future with Christ. Trust in the Lord’s strength, His grace, and His unfailing love. The wages of sin may be death, but in Christ, death is defeated, and life is ours forevermore.
